AC gov't to provide mental healthcare to 16 rescued individuals

ANGELES CITY – The Angeles City Government, under the leadership of Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr., on May 12 rescued 16 homeless individuals with mental health problems, and transferred them immediately to the Mariveles Mental Wellness and General Hospital for further treatment.

Lazatin said the City will shoulder the monthly payment for their health services and treatment.

Upon the order of Mayor Lazatin, Chief Adviser IC Calaguas on May 13 instructed members of Angeles City Tourism Auxiliary (ACTA), City Social Welfare Development Office (CSWDO), Angeles City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (ACDRRMO), Angeles City Police Office (ACPO), and Angeles City Barangay Outreach to transfer the 16 mentally-challenged individuals to the mental hospital in Mariveles.

Lazatin allotted P4 million, under the Gender and Development fund, for the Integrated Mental Health Services for Persons with Mental and Psychological Challenges to give assistance to patients for their medical treatment.

It can be recalled that Mayor Lazatin on March 9 signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Mariveles Mental Wellness and General Hospital to provide mental health services to persons with mental and psychological challenges.
