CLARK FREEPORT – local executives in the surrounding cities and municipality here lauded the Yokohama Tire Philippines, Incorporated (YTPI) on job preservation and business continuity amid the Covid-19 crisis.
YTPI executives led by President Tetsuya Nagao were cited for being a key player in employment and economic activity despite the coronavirus crisis during the recent courtesy visit to some mayors in the cities of Mabalacat and Angeles and the municipality of Bamban.
Briefed on YTPI’s intensified safety protocols against Covid-19, Mayor Crisostomo Garbo after the meeting with company executives earlier in the month said the Japanese tire maker may proceed in its usual business operations.
“It is important for these workers that their work continues, not only to help the economy, but their families also. YTPI appears to be compliant with protocols and requirements of government,” Garbo stated in a social media post.
Bamban Mayor Jose Antonio Feliciano, meanwhile, said that YTPI being a Japanese-firm is capable when it comes to dealing issues like Covid-19. According to him, the company is equipped with technology and safety measures in the prevention of the coronavirus.
Feliciano also expressed the local government’s readiness to help YTPI not just on matters concerning the current crisis but also on business continuity and risk management.
For his part, Angeles City Mayor Carmelo Lazatin, Jr. said the city government is always ready to extend assistance to YTPI. He likewise commended the company for ‘preserving jobs’ amid the global health pandemic.
Yokohama Tire Philippines, Inc. is one of the biggest subsidiaries of The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd. outside Japan. At present, the company operates on 80 percent production capacity.
Nagao said despite the expected major job losses worldwide due to global health pandemic, the YTPI currently employs over 2,500 workers.
Adapting to the new normal in tire manufacturing operations and with intensified safety measures in place, Nagao encouraged YTPI its employees and stakeholders to cooperate in the fight against coronavirus.
“Together, we can beat this (Covid-19 threat) better,” said Nagao.
